Veteran Support Services

Keeping Those Who Served, Housed

Research shows that without ongoing support, up to 25% of formerly homeless veterans return to homelessness within two years.

Getting a veteran into a home is only the first step. Keeping them housed, through the setbacks, the unexpected bills, and the vulnerabilities that come with rebuilding a life, is where the real work begins.

Warrior Homes of Collier recognized early on that no single community organization or government program in Collier County had the sole mission of housing veterans and helping veterans stay housed. So we built one. In 2024, we launched our Veteran Support Services (VSS) department, led by dedicated advocates and a full-time case manager. Our goal is simple: meet veterans where they are, whether they live in one of our homes or not, and respond rapidly to clear whatever stands between them and stable housing.

What We Do

Many of the veterans we support don’t live in one of our homes. They live in their own place, often just barely — getting by on little income and few resources, where a single unexpected bill can be the difference between staying housed and losing everything. Many don’t qualify for help from other local agencies because their income sits just above the cutoff, leaving them with nowhere else to turn.

That’s where our Veteran Support Services team steps in. We provide rapid, responsive help so veterans can manage their expenses and stay on their feet, covering medical and dental bills, rent, utility payments, on-demand transportation to appointments, and/or short-term hotel stays for veterans transitioning between housing situations.

In 2025 alone, we provided more than 12,000 wrap-around services to veterans across Collier County; an average of 46 veterans were helped every week. Veterans who receive this support are referred to us by agencies we collaborate with that serve Collier County, or many veterans reach out to us directly.

How it Works

Our Veteran Support Services program works hand in hand with a coalition of local organizations to identify the unmet needs of veterans in our community. When a veteran contacts us directly or is referred by a partner agency, our case manager takes the time to know them individually — their situation, their history, and what’s truly driving their vulnerability.

This personal approach is what sets us apart, and so is our speed. With no layers of bureaucracy standing between a veteran and help, we can respond rapidly to a critical need — often the same day. A thorough intake lets us connect each veteran with exactly the right resource, whether from us or one of our trusted community partners: rental assistance, food support, job referrals, gas cards, transportation to medical appointments, and mental health resources. No ask is too small, and we work to keep every veteran who needs help from falling through the cracks.
